Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
Hackney Removals is committed to conducting business in an ethical, responsible, and transparent manner. We recognise our duty to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within our operations and throughout our supply chains. This statement sets out the steps we are taking to identify, prevent, and address the risks of modern slavery in connection with our removals and associated services.
Our Zero-Tolerance Approach
We have a clear zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, servitude, child labour, and human trafficking. Hackney Removals will not knowingly engage with any individual, contractor, or organisation that takes part in, condones, or is complicit in such practices. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place.
Scope and Responsibility
This statement applies to all employees, agency workers, contractors, and directors of Hackney Removals, as well as to our suppliers and business partners. Senior management has overall responsibility for ensuring this policy is implemented, maintained, and regularly reviewed. Managers at all levels are responsible for ensuring their teams understand and comply with this statement and the supporting procedures.
Supplier Standards and Due Diligence
We expect all suppliers to share our commitment to preventing modern slavery. As part of our supplier onboarding and review processes, we seek assurances that suppliers operate in compliance with applicable labour, employment, and human rights laws. We may request information on suppliers organisational policies, recruitment practices, use of subcontractors, and workforce conditions to help us assess any potential modern slavery risks.
Supplier Audits and Monitoring
Hackney Removals is developing and strengthening a risk-based audit process for our key suppliers. Where appropriate, we will conduct audits to evaluate compliance with our modern slavery expectations. These audits may include reviewing documentation, interviewing relevant personnel, and assessing working conditions where practicable. If a supplier is found to be in breach of our standards, we will require corrective actions within a defined timeframe and may suspend or terminate the relationship if adequate improvements are not made.
Recruitment and Employment Practices
Within our own operations, we use fair and transparent recruitment processes. We do not charge workers recruitment fees, and we ensure that employment is freely chosen. All employees are provided with clear information about their roles, pay, and working conditions. We verify the identity and right to work of all staff members and do not tolerate the withholding of identity documents or any practices that could indicate forced labour.
Training and Awareness
Hackney Removals is committed to raising awareness of modern slavery among our employees and key suppliers. We provide guidance on recognising the signs of exploitation and the steps to take if concerns are identified. Management teams are responsible for reinforcing this message and ensuring that ethical conduct is an integral part of daily operations.
Reporting Concerns and Whistleblowing
We encourage all employees, contractors, and suppliers to report any concerns relating to modern slavery or unethical labour practices. Reports can be made to line managers or senior management without fear of retaliation. All concerns will be treated seriously, handled confidentially wherever possible, and investigated promptly. Any confirmed breaches will result in appropriate corrective and disciplinary measures, which may include ending business relationships and reporting relevant matters to the authorities.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We recognise that combating modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility. Hackney Removals is committed to continuous improvement of our policies, procedures, and due diligence processes to better identify and address risks. This modern slavery statement will be reviewed at least once every twelve months, or more frequently if required by changes in legislation, best practice, or our business operations. The review process will consider lessons learned, audit findings, and feedback from stakeholders to strengthen our approach.
This statement reflects Hackney Removals current position and has been approved by the companys leadership, who are responsible for ensuring its implementation across the business and our supply chains.
