Packing Is Tough, But You Have To Get It Done For Your Removal!

Posted on 22/11/2013

Packing is by far the most boring part of the removals process. You will need to ensure that you do it properly, otherwise you may well find yourself with a few boxes full of shattered belongings. The ability for packing to make a difference in your move is simply down to how attentive you are with it, as there is no substitute for ensuring that your things are properly protected. In many ways, packing is one of the most important parts of the series of tasks leading up to the move. If your removals team are not aware of how you have packed, then no matter how well they handle the boxes, things may still break. If you have protected everything adequately, then there is nothing that can really go wrong, bar a box getting dropped, or crushed by something heavy. The vibrations of the van moving will cause the boxes to move and readjust, which will mean that everything within the boxes will be rubbing together. The friction caused by certain surfaces, like china and glass can cause shattering when rubbed together, and things like wood can be stained or marked by the friction or paint on other items as well. Packing sensibly will mean that you can avoid all of these problems, and get your move sorted with ease. For a start, planning out the move should include plans for when you will be doing your packing. It is all well and good to write down ‘packing’ in your list of things to do, but in all honesty it is a lot more than a one word answer. The fact is that packing takes ages, and you need to be realistic about how much time you have in which to get everything done. For a start, begin as early as possible, and get all of the junk out of the way. Packing up anything that you do not need is a waste of time, so get rid of it before the move. If you can do this, you will reduce the workload significantly across the whole of the move, and you will be sure to make the whole thing a lot more efficient. With that, you will also find you can make a spare bit of cash form boot sales or selling things on the Internet, and this could pay for your packing materials, a win win situation!Packing should not be done for longer than a couple of hours at a time, if you want to keep your concentration up. Ensuring that you are always alert as to how you are doing things will stop you from getting too bored and simply making a mess of it all! You will no doubt find that you can get a lot done in that time if you are concentrating well, so it is well worth dividing the packing sessions in to smaller clusters of a couple of hours each. The best is if you can reduce it to a couple of hours a day, though this takes some great planning and starting very early. When packing ensure that you tape the boxes up well, and that you do not overuse bubble wrap. Bubble wrap is bad for the environment, expensive, and takes up space in your boxes. Newspaper is great for replacing it if you are looking for a better option. Label the boxes with the room that you want it to be left in at the new house to speed things up.
