Although making relocations more green is adding more stress to what already is an incredibly long and harrowing task, increasing number of people are taking measures to try and execute a carbon neutral move. Achieving a completely carbon neutral move is somewhat impossible (at least until they commercial electric-powered 7.5 tonne vans), but there are certainly a number of ways in which you can reduce the carbon footprint of your relocation. Other than hiring suitably sized transport, you can also make your move greener by using appropriate packing materials. Below are the eco-friendly pros and cons for different types of packing materials:Cardboard boxesCardboard boxes have long been the most popular option when it comes to packing possessions away in preparation for a move. They can be acquired for free at most supermarkets, but you can also buy them online or from any good office retailor.Pros:-    Recyclable: Cardboard boxes can easily be recycled. As most local councils now provide their residences with a door-to-door recycling collections service, all you have to do to recycle them is to cut them up and place them into the allocated bin outside of your home.-    Reusable: Reusing cardboard boxes can just as eco-friendly as recycling them. Whether you choose to use them for your children’s art and crafts sessions, or for your next relocation – whatever you do with them is eco-friendly as long as you are reusing them.-    Bio-degradable: bio-degradable means that if left outside for years, the material will degrade because of microbes slowly disintegrating the box. Cons:-    You will have to use many of them: As they are made of card, the structural integrity of the boxes can be compromised. Therefore you should use many cardboard boxes instead of using a few and filling them right up to the brim. Plastic cratesPlastic crates provide a great alternative to cardboard boxes. As they are structurally sounder, they can take more weight and offer greater protection against damages incurred to your items during a relocation.Pros: -    Reusable: As plastic is non-biodegradable, you can potentially reuse the same plastic crates for every property relocation you will go through in your life time. As long as you keep them in good condition, there should be no reason why you can’t use them for your next move, and the move after that, and even the move after that.-    Great for storage: Load the plastic crates up with items you wish to store and place them in a cool dry area and you’ll have peace of mind knowing they’ll be protected against the elements and against heavy items falling on them from above.Cons: -    Non-biodegradable: Unlike with cardboard boxes, if you leave a plastic crate outside it will remain intact until the end of time or until a giant meteor hits earth and destroys all life – whichever one happens first.Bubble-wrapBubble-wrap is a popular and, of course, extremely fun protecting agent. Use enough and you’ll be sure that your delicate and fragile items will not get damaged.Pros: -    Reusable: just because a few of the bubbles are popped here and there doesn’t render that piece of bubble-wrap unusable.-    Recyclable: They can be popped in your recycling bin and can be completely recycled.Cons:-    Non-biodegradable: Just like plastic crates, bubble-wrap is also non-biodegradable and will not be naturally broken down.
